Experience With Godaddy For Two Years
For more than two years, I have been using Godaddy for myself and all my clients. There was absolutely no downtime on any of my websites and their support was also prompt. There were times when I had to escalate issues with them which I will mention in my content below but there was no alarming reason for me to switch from godaddy as such till then.
Introduction To Namecheap
But a few months back, I got a website project for a client, who already had a web hosting with NameCheap. So I had no choice but to work with Namecheap. Initially, I was biased towards Namecheap because I was blown away by the prompt and responsive service by GoDaddy. But as I kept working with Namecheap and their support system, I found subtle but crucial differences between the two.
Benefits of The Two
Both Godaddy and Namecheap have similar uptimes. There was no time when any of my websites crashed because of a hosting provider.
Both have good customer support response time. The moment you click on chat option, immediately you get connected to their customer support.
Differences Between The Two
Cost for restoring cpanel backup.
One of my client websites crashed about 14 months ago. That was my first experience with a website crashing. Both the hosting companies had nothing to do with it. Because the budget for the website was extremely low, we had gone for a FREE theme and the theme plugin’s update got pushed without our notice and crashed the code.
In an attempt to recover that website (because we could not find a local backup), we got in touch with GoDaddy. Godaddy immediately wanted to charge Rs. 5000 for replacing a cpanel backup. I immediately stepped back and put more effort in finding my local backup. Fortunately I found it and did not have to BUY the cpanel backup.
On the contrary, when another client’s Namecheap hosting was compromised with malware, Namecheap support restored the Cpanel backup twice or thrice without mentioning any cost associated with it. They were more than eager to help.
Quality of support staff
Whenever I initiated a chat with Godaddy support staff, the person who connected would not be technical and they would pass on your every message to technical support staff. They made the conversation longer and time-consuming plus tedious.
Whenever I connected with Namecheap support staff, all technical people connected directly with you and solved my problems first hand. Time to recover from a mishap was much quicker when working with Namecheap.
I build websites only in WordPress because contrary to popular belief it is secure, they release enhancements and upgrades quickly and qualitatively, it has a wide range of plugins for thousands of functionalities available for free or almost free and I can provide the most value to my clients with WordPress.
But whenever I contacted Godaddy for support and the issue was related to WordPress, Godaddy would ask me to contact my developer. They would not provide WordPress support.
On the contrary, Namecheap offered to solve my issues (of course after taking my consent) even when I got stuck with WordPress. In fact, they had a section for WordPress support, whenever you reach out to them. They know that there were millions of non-technical website creators like me using the WordPress platform and supporting them comes naturally to Namecheap.
For someone like me to spend 5 hours diagnosing a simple issue, Namecheap would solve it in minutes.
With my experience in both Godaddy and Namecheap, I would NOW recommend Namecheap any day to my Divas.
