When I started by entrepreneurship journey back in 2018, I connected with a lot of business owners. One such business was a start-up by 3 employees. They had a posh office with 15+ employees but when I asked them how they marketed their product, they had no answer. They said they had 2-3 clients for the last 2-3 years who were helping them survive.
They wanted me and my friend (who had accompanied me for the meeting) to help them market their product to some of my clients. Actually, the target audience that their product needed was coincidently the same as my target audience. But when I asked him how he was pricing his product, he quoted an exorbitantly high cost. I would not be able to find buyers for him at that cost. And I quickly realised that this company is also the same kind who looks for one meaty client in need rather than marketing themselves to get more number of client and help businesses at a reasonable client.
They would rather sit in their air conditioned offices than go out in the market and see what the market needs. Marketing is not a one time activity. It is a constant understanding of the market and providing clients and prospects with everything they need before they make a final decision to work with you.
I continue to talk about marketing in the blog also because I firmly believe that had I not marketed my business, it would not have existed and growth like it has.
